The RM of Beaver River is currently accepting applications for a Full-time Seasonal Maintenance Operator.

Applicants:
  • Must have a valid Class 5 Drivers License. A Class 1 License would be an asset.
  • Must have good communication and organizational skills, be self-motivated and have experience in the operation of graders, tractors, mowers and snow removal equipment, as well as general maintenance of equipment.
  • Must be willing to follow instructions and work unsupervised.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain: First Aid, WHMIS, TDGs, etc.
  • Work schedule is based on 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week. Extra hours may be required.
Duties MAY include:
  • Grading RM roads, snow removal, grass mowing.
  • Tasks involving back-hoe loader, gravel truck, tractor
  • Traffic sign placement
  • Assessing, cleaning and repairing of culverts
  • Performing daily and routine maintenance on equipment
  • Keeping records of daily work performed in the manner prescribed by the RM administration

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the coordination and preparation of the assessment roll in accordance with legislation, regulations, bylaws, and accepted mass appraisal processes that pertain to establishing and defending Alberta property assessments.
  • Establish property assessments for all nonlinear property within the municipality.
  • Collect, review and record information relevant in establishing and defending an assessment roll, such as building characteristics, real property characteristics, property sales data, income, and expense data.
  • Ensure all relevant data is entered into the municipal computer assisted mass appraisal software program.
  • Perform all valuation analysis and calculations in accordance with standard mass appraisal procedures.
  • Identify and communicate any issues, concerns, or ideas regarding the valuation process.
  • Ensure work by third parties is performed in accordance with legislations, regulations, bylaws, and accepted mass appraisal processes. Ensure all data is collected and updated in the municipal software program.
  • Identify and communicate all required and recommended assessment roll changes for each municipal taxation year.
  • Upload information required by municipalities to Milenet.
  • Provide all assessment information and supporting documentation requested during a provincial audit.
  • Assist in the preparation and defense of the tax and assessment fiscal year end process.
  • Ensure all assessment software and hardware used in the collecting, valuing, and defending property assessments are usable and up to date.
  • Recommend tools, resources, instructional, and educational options to assist in performing your responsibilities.
  • Represent the department in a professional manner when dealing with other departments, elected officials, the public, etc.
  • Disclosure of information must comply with provincial legislation, such as the Municipal Government Act and FOIP.
  • Every employee shall complete and apply designated training and adhere to Occupational Health and Safety legislation. Every employee shall take reasonable care to protect the health and welfare of themselves and other workers and cooperate with the employer in protecting the health and safety of all employees and contractors present on the worksite, as stated in the Occupational Health and Safety Legislation.

Qualifications:
  • Hold a valid Driver’s License in good standing and the license held must be valid for the classification of the motor vehicle required to operate.

  • Minimum ten (10) years property assessments, including valuations and defenses.
  • Experience in the valuation of rural municipalities will be considered an asset.

What you get to do:
  • Able to operate a knuckle picker trucks with automatic and manual transmission and associated equipment including hand tools, power tools, hydraulic tools, mag drills, etc. in a safe, responsible and professional manner;
  • Know and follow all road and other regulations;
  • Perform pre-operational inspections including hazard assessments, calculating knuckle picker and other equipment capabilities and weight to prepare for rigging and hoisting;
  • Operate the knuckle picker and to lift, move, position or place equipment and materials.
  • Perform routine maintenance;
  • Drive to and from client sites; engage in trailer towing.
  • Follows and complies with all internal company’s safety guidelines, policies and procedures;
  • Participates in pre-job hazard assessments and inspections prior to commencing any job;
  • Responsible for loading equipment, engage in manual lifting and properly securing loads in a manner that ensures compliance with weight restrictions and government regulations;
  • To complete all required paperwork in an accurate and timely manner, while following all federal hours of service regulations;
  • To complete job tasks with personal and public safety as the top priority;
  • Ensure correct equipment/rigging is chosen for the job; use guidance from Supervisor when required;
  • Fully competent to do all types of knuckle picker truck work, customer specific site work and oilfield hauling, including rig moving;
  • Maintain a clean and organized truck.
What we’re looking for:
  • Must have Air Brakes Endorsement; or willing to obtain as part of employment
  • Previous knuckle picker ruck experience is considered an asset
  • Picker rigging practices and load securement experience would be an asset
  • Familiarity with automatic and manual transmission
  • Successful completion of pre-access drug and alcohol testing
  • Valid Driver’s License
