At HomeShare Alliance, we’re creating a cultural shift in the real estate and housing markets, one that shines a light on the benefits of sharing rather than selling your home. We’re committed to guiding homeowners through the process of becoming HomeShare hosts, which means finding not just any housemate, but the right housemate for your unique lifestyle.

Our passionate, energetic team is here to listen to your needs, concerns, and goals and then find you the right HomeShare match. We understand the needs of HomeShare hosts and housemates are multifaceted, which is why we have created a team of experts so that HomeShare Alliance can support homeowners in all facets of the homesharing process.

We’ll work with you to make homesharing a simple and rewarding process.

Home Share Loyalist

Home Share Loyalist is an alternative housing model that promotes intergenerational living for Loyalist students with a focus on international students and adults 55 years of age and older in the region. This program aligns with efforts in the region to be age friendly and supports policy efforts for aging in place and with Loyalist’s efforts to engage and support their students.

The program was developed from April 2020 until it was launched on National Seniors Day, October 1, 2022 at the Belleville Farmers Market.

The program is grounded in providing experiential learning opportunities for students in the Social Service Worker program and is the first of its kind to use a health-equity perspective in the planning, implementation and evaluation of this type of program. All Home Share Team members complete a Health Equity Impact Assessment training to ensure the program models inclusive and equitable design principles. In addition, addressing ageism, racism and housing challenges are core features of the designed program with the intention to lead social change.

Waterloo

Community Justice Initiatives (CJI) - Waterloo Region Home Share (WRHS) services the Waterloo region and outlying areas. WRHS offers a free, supportive process for Home Providers and Home Seekers in their search for a compatible individual with whom to share a home, and to assist them in completing a Living Arrangement Memorandum of Understanding. WRHS also assists existing Home Sharers with completing a Living Arrangement Memorandum of Understanding.

Both the Home Seeker and Home Provider receive assistance by submitting an application, participating in an interview, engaging in an introductory meeting with a potential Home Sharer, discussing needs and preferences related to shared housing, completing reference checks, participating in a Home Share Mediation to create a shared Living Arrangement Memorandum of Understanding, and receiving ongoing support after moving in.
