In 1998, Saint John's Abbey and University commissioned renowned calligrapher Donald Jackson to produce a hand-written, hand-illuminated Bible. This is a work of art that unites an ancient Benedictine tradition with the technology and vision of today, illuminating the Word of God for a new millennium.

There are seven handcrafted illustrated volumes written in an elegant new script using historic Chinese inkstones on hand-selected calfskin vellum. Every aspect of production has been archived in the vault from the quills used to gold leaf remnants, each element contributing to this sacred tapestry of scripture.

St. Mary's University has a Heritage Edition of the St. John's Bible.
