Eclectically Yours

Private Collection

[img] Glass paperweights are fun but difficult to do because the underside of the glass must be painted in reverse - for example: the top parts of the picture such as the veins in the lotus leaves have to be painted before the leaves themselves so that they show on top through the glass. This piece took first in class in the 2017 Calgary Stampede Western Showcase Exhibition.
Here is another piece showing the depth of visual effect: top and side view

"Northern Skies" celebrates a couple in Alaska.

The plane he built (look in the mirror behind the sculpture) is one of several symbols of their relationship depicted in the piece.

"Pentecost" is a three dimensional sculpture with multiple layers.

It placed first in Class and second in Section in the 2014 Calgary Stampede Western Showcase.

Judges commented that is was "exceptionally creative in concept and design. Choice of colors against the black background is exceptionally creative. Light beams and the doves on the back balance the fire on the front. Well done, very effective."

"Written in the Stars" was created as a wedding gift.

The translucent earth minerals (cadmium, iron, magnesium, tin and tin oxide) used for this painting require multiple layers of paint to achieve the desired level of color against the black tile; each layer fired to approximately 760°C. Aluminum and 22K gold complete the palette. It took over 60 hours of creation interspersed with another 40 hours of firing.

The date of the wedding is written in the stars.
