Position Summary
The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing day‑to‑day operations across Boon Energy’s well maintenance, SAGD, and project‑based work throughout Northeast Alberta and surrounding regions. This role includes leading and supporting field supervisors, coordinating resources, managing client relationships, and ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and consistently.
The successful candidate will bring hands‑on oilfield experience, proven management and conflict‑resolution skills, strong decision‑making ability, and a collaborative leadership approach to a dynamic operating environment.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in an Operations Manager or senior supervisory role within oil & gas maintenance
- Solid background in:
- Well maintenance
- Pumpjack maintenance
- Common valve system knowledge, including greasing, repair, and remanufacturing
- Understanding of common wellhead assemblies and components
- Picker services and oilfield transportation logistics
- Demonstrated people‑management and conflict‑resolution experience
- Strong leadership, organizational, and decision‑making skills
- Client‑focused, trustworthy, and professional leadership style
- Strong computer literacy and comfort using cloud‑based systems
- Willingness to travel regularly to camp and field locations
- Safety‑driven mindset with experience enforcing policies and procedures
- Valid driver’s license: additional oilfield certifications or tickets are assets
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Leadership
- Oversee daily operations for long‑term maintenance contracts and short‑term project work
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and direction to supervisors, field crews, and camp‑based teams
- Manage SAGD, well maintenance, and pumpjack maintenance programs
- Support picker services, transportation logistics, and equipment coordination
- Regularly visit camp‑based teams, local crews, and client sites to support operations and maintain strong relationships
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate manpower, equipment, and materials to meet changing operational demands
- Monitor productivity, job performance, and operating costs; identify opportunities for improvement
- Work closely with shop and maintenance teams to ensure fleet and equipment readiness
Technical & Field Support
- Provide operational oversight for:
- Well maintenance and integrity work
- Pumpjack maintenance
- Valve greasing programs
- Wellhead servicing and pressure‑control awareness
- Ensure crews are properly trained and equipped for assigned scopes
- Support troubleshooting and field execution when required
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and enforce Boon Energy’s safety culture, policies, and regulatory requirements
- Participate in incident investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure compliance with client, provincial, and internal safety standards
People Management & Client Relations
- Lead conflict resolution and personnel management in a fair, consistent, and respectful manner
- Support hiring, onboarding, performance management, and employee development
- Maintain strong client relationships through clear communication, professionalism, and trust
- Act as a key point of contact for operational concerns and execution planning
Administration & Systems
- Utilize cloud‑based software and digital tools for scheduling, reporting, tracking, and communication
- Contribute to operational planning, reporting, and long‑term improvement strategies

- Abrasive Blasting & Coating
- Surface preparation using abrasive blasting equipment
- Spray application of industrial coatings to required specifications
Learning and safely operating:
- Abrasive blast pots and dead‑man systems
- Air compressors and breathing air systems
- Blast hoods and personal protective equipment
- Understanding blast standards, coating profiles, and inspection requirements
- Applying coatings to specified film thicknesses
- Following manufacturer data sheets and application guidelines
- Working with multiple industrial coating systems
- Maintaining equipment and work areas
- Adhering to all company and site safety procedures
Field & Manual Support Work
As part of an integrated field team, you will also assist with oilfield integrity and prep work, including:
- Chipping cement
- Shoveling snow, dirt and mud
- Assisting welders and tradespeople
- Drilling and cutting (zip cut and reciprocating saw use)
- Gas testing as required
- General labor duties as assigned
Qualifications & Requirements
- Entry-level candidates welcome; industrial or oilfield experience is an asset
- Physically fit and able to perform demanding manual labor

- Ability to follow instructions and work in varying weather conditions
- Willingness to work camp-based rotational schedules
- Valid driver’s license preferred
