Author Marian Babson was the pseudonym of American mystery writer Ruth Marian Stenstreem, born in Salem, Massachusetts, in 1929. She died in 2017. She lived most her life in London, England. Babson's books are usually under two hundred pages and often involve cats. She has earned a wide readership on both sides of the Atlantic for her mystery and suspense novels. Her publisher's tagline for her is "Murder Most British". She was awarded the Crime Writers' Association "Dagger in the Library" award in 1996 for her body of work. She is also an Agatha Award winner.
Babson employs many of the staples of mystery writing, from using series detectives to mixing suspense and comedy, but all of her novels "are remarkably even in their high quality," attested Mary Jean DeMarr in the St. James Guide to Crime and Mystery Writers. DeMarr added that Babson's books "are always tautly plotted, with believable and interesting characters, and are written in a smooth and polished style."

This is a collectible collection of vintage rare books by Carole Nelson Douglas.

The Cat and a playing Card series was originally published as Crystal Days & Crystal Nights before being re-published in their full form in 1999-2000.
Midnight Louie was introduced as a character in the author's early romance-with-mystery series, initially called the Crystal Series. The author was not shown galleys of the books until she demanded them, too late to undo the romance editor's deep cuts of mystery elements, including Midnight Louie sections. The books were later reverted and Douglas reissued them in the original form as The Cat and a playing card series. In the interim, Douglas had started writing Midnight Louie's own new mystery series.
Crystal Days 1990 contains the Cat and the King of Clubs & Cat and the Queen of Hearts 1999.
Crystal Nights 1990 Signed contains the Cat and the Jill of Diamonds & Cat and the Jack of Spades 2000.

Rachel Alexander and Dash is a series of mystery novels by Carol Lea Benjamin who writes the Rachel Alexander and Dash series x9 books. Carol was a former private investigator and acclaimed dog trainer - a member of the International Association of Canine Professionals Hall of Fame.
In the books Rachel Alexander is a divorced dog trainer who is now a private investigator. She works alongside her pit bull Dash in order to solve crimes in Greenwich Village.
As these are vintage a few may have age toned inside covers/age toned pages but this does not interfere with reading. All as new books look never read, in excellent condition. May have been very gently read, pages tight.
