This beautiful oil painting print in glass is surrounded by an exquisite gold plated finish scroll images wood frame. In excellent condition. Measurements: 41” length and 34” high. View additional photos.
The Gleaners, by Jean-François Millet (1814-1875), is one of the most famous works of French Realism. Millet painted it between 1857 and 1859 in a small village of northern France. At the time this humble scene depicting poor peasants gleaning the fields was not recognized as an important work, but eventually The Gleaners took its place in art history and became an icon of the French 19th century. It depicts three peasant women gleaning a field of stray stalks of wheat after the harvest in a French field. Now seen as a pioneering work of modern art & is a perfect example of Millet's profound respect for the timeless dignity of human labor. (Note: 'Gleaning' describes the activity of collecting leftover corn and other crops from farmer's fields after the harvest.)
