Roger Lacoursiere passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025, at the age of 85 years. Born to William and Estelle Lacoursiere, Roger was the fifth of nine children. He had meningitis as a baby that caused the disability and speech impairment that he lived with all of his life. Roger moved to Calgary in 1982 to live with his sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Ray Cloutier, and eventually moved in with caregivers.

He loved food and walking. He was always smiling and happy. Roger had an amazing ability to remember the birthdays of everyone important in his life. He would always say, “Happy Birthday”, even if he saw you a week or two later. Roger had much to teach us. He would say, “You like flowers?”, and you would stop for a second and actually notice the flowers. He helped us appreciate the simple joys in life. He was a fighter. Doctors said he would not live past 16 years old; he beat the odds by 69 years! He caught covid in early 2020. Although he had COPD and was on oxygen, two big strikes against him, he survived. He never complained and accepted life as it came along. His beautiful spirit and radiant smile will live forever in the hearts of those he knew and loved, and he will be dearly missed

Roger is survived by his sister Irene (Rene) Doucette, sister-in-law Audrey Lacoursiere, his caregivers, Vissy and Ferdie Justo, Geoffrey Bates, and Sheila Tolentino; nieces and nephews, Carmen (Rick) Gallant, Bernie (Amy) Cloutier, Dan (Tracie) Cloutier, Rob (Louise) Cloutier, and their families.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (Corner of 4th Street & Northmount Drive N.W., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery (3219 4 St NW, Calgary, AB).
