May 12, 1945 – Eastbourne, Sussex, England    January 31, 2025 - Calgary, Alberta

Elizabeth “Anne” Holmes of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025, at the age of 79 years.

Anne was born in Eastbourne, Sussex, England, on May 12, 1945. She immigrated to Canada, arriving by boat aboard The Queen Mary at the port of Halifax in 1946. She then settled in Calgary, AB, in the community of Capitol Hill with her mother, father, and eldest sister, with several siblings joining them over the years. Anne was the second of nine children in the Holmes clan.

She graduated from Crescent Heights High School and shortly after graduation, began working at AGT as an operator. Her experience with AGT gave her the confidence to look for something new and she eventually landed a job at Hudson Bay Oil and Gas. This began her long and successful career in the oil and gas sector. She retired at age 70 from Seitel Solutions. During her days at work, Anne made friends easily, which turned many colleagues into lifelong friends.

Anne enjoyed gardening, baking, poppies, storytelling, long walks in Confederation Park, crafts, sewing, backyard fires, Mara Lake, and dart games with a glass of red wine. Anne loved the colour red, and you could tell was her favourite simply by walking into her home. One of her most memorable vacations was her mother-daughter trip to San Francisco. Anne wasn’t a fan of flying and took a very long hiatus until her 65th birthday. When Billie-Ann surprised her with a paper airplane in her flower bouquet, suggesting a trip to San Francisco, she decided to face her fear and go on the trip. She talked about this trip whenever she was given the chance. We then talked her into a family trip to Mexico, where she enjoyed the hotel gardens, food, and even a little tequila.

She will be most remembered for her chattiness. Kidding aside, Anne was known to catch up with friends and family any chance she could. Visitors were always welcome in her well-kept home or beautiful garden oasis she created over the years. She was always there to listen, provide a hug, or offer a snack.

Anne is survived by her daughter, Billie-Anne Sabo, her son, Trevor James Sabo, and her two granddaughters, Adria Ann Lubert and Ashlyn Mary Lubert, all of Calgary, AB. She is also survived by her three brothers, Bob Holmes (Brenda Holmes), Kevin Holmes (Linda Holmes), and David Holmes (Laurie La Pierre); two sisters, April Charmine Holmes and Catherine Holly Holmes; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Anne was predeceased by her mother, Bessie Louise Farmer, father, Leslie Charles Holmes, sisters, Sally Gribbon, Lou Williams (Dave Williams); and brother, Andy Holmes. Anne was a dog mom to Jessie, Megan, and Sadie, as well as Brandie the cat.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (Corner of 4th Street & Northmount Drive N.W., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. (McInnis-Holloway)
